Peakeen Ridge Walk
Meeting at the Old Creamery coffee shop to start at 9:00 - 9:30 am we head off up the Goats Path with a short detour to visit Ardahill ring fort with its stunning views.
On then to Finn Macool's Seat and the monument to the Virgin Mary. Before we step on to the trail proper, we'll take a brief detour to the Mass Rock where catholics would gather and pray in secret during penal times in the 17th Century. From there we head west along the Peakeen Ridge trail stopping at the Passage Tomb.
Onwards to the summit of Caher Mountain at 338 metres and to Peakeen Junction. Taking the south route to the Black Gate we take a detour to the Marriage Stone; one of the most interesting and unique monuments on the Sheepshead Peninsula.
Back to the ocean at Tra Ruian Quay we head east along the coastal path taking in Caher famine burial ground, the White House Gallery and Coffee Shop. Back in Kilcrohane we will visit the old ruined church of St Crochan (Kilcrohane), the ancient Stone Row then return to base.
