Three Peaks Walk
This is a full day's hike starting at 9:00 - 9:30 am at the Old Creamery Coffee Shop. Heading east we'll walk to Farranamanagh Beach and Lake, past the site of the former Bardic School and down to the Well of the Poets.
On then along the Old Kilcrohane Road to the Stone Circle in Ahakista to have a rest and speculate over this lovely rediscovered monument. We then ascend up the ridge of Rosskerrig Mountain to Windy Gap passing the old long abandoned peat bogs and on to the summit of Seefin Mountain at 345 metres with its amazing views.
We'll take our first descent down to the Goats Path, taking us past Finn Macool's Seat and the monument to the Virgin Mary. A further climb, takes us up along Peakeen Ridge passing the Passage Tomb to the summit of Caher Mountain at 338 metres.
Then we begin our final descent via Peakeen Junction to the Black Gate. From here the route is fairly level, so if the legs are willing and time allows, we can take a short detour to the Marriage Stone; an unusual monument, well worth a visit. Onwards then to Tra Ruian and along the coastal path to the Caher famine burial ground.
Heading home now, we'll call in at the old ruined church of St Chrohan (Kilcrohane) and the Standing Stones before heading back to base.
